Episode 34 – Amy Neufeld & Lauren Zimbalatti of The Exchange Brewery

Happy Friday!

(Though if you live anywhere east of me, it’s probably like, Happy Friday Evening!) The Exchange Brewery is awesome, y’all. It is likely the one of the coolest breweries I’ve been to. Sitting down with Lauren and Amy to chat about beer may be a highlight of my summer. And I also touched their droolworthy foeders in the proper brewery itself. Hence, you should listen then plan a trip to visit them in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

There are a couple of big announcements next week. And I would like to thank everyone for being patient with the episodes as of late. There’s a bit of family illness happening so I’m just making sure there’s at least an episode every Friday!

Follow the show on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Listen to the shows where fine podcasts are aired (Apple Podcasts, Stitcher).  Email me at marisa@harpyhour.com, or call 1-877-85-HARPY (1-877-854-2779). While that number is toll-free in the US and Canada, if you want to call in, you can do so by using sending me a voice memo recorded on your smartphone. Email it and I will try to get it on the air!

Thank you so much for listening! See you next week!

Episode 33 – Dana Connor of Oast House Brewers

Finally, your Friday episode!

Today I speak with Dana Connor from Oast House Brewers, located between St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake. With their distinctive candystripe colours, Oast House makes incredible beer with a local flair. I enjoyed my visit, sampled some delicious beers, and came away feeling happy.

Because summer is nearly over, I suggest you get yourself a bottle of something delightful–preferably Oast House if you have it–and sit in the sun. As always, I appreciate Dana for talking to me and the ladies in the Taproom for suggesting samples for me to try.

Either way, listen to Harpy Hour here, Apple Podcasts, or Stitcher. Say hello on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. Call 1-833-85-HARPY (1-833-854-2779) to tell me of your summer beer.

Most of all, thank you for listening. Please recommend and review the show. I would love that.

Episode 32 – The Mighty Megan Hamilton (plus Half Hours on Earth)

At last! The long-awaited episode from last Friday!

Technical issues were in abundance last week, but in the end, I sallied forth. In this episode, I chat with Megan Hamilton, musician extraordinaire, about politics, sour beers, and why sometimes taking the money isn’t a bad thing. If I would take the money, wouldn’t you?

Half Hours on Earth is the featured brewery this episode. They make incredible farmhouse ales, saisons, and sours. For posterity, we drink at least four of them. I think that was the last of the stash, too!

Buy Megan’s albums at her Bandcamp page and of course, iTunes. She performs the theme music for Harpy Hour, obviously, but her body of work is impressive.

Listen to Harpy Hour wherever fine podcasts are heard, say hello on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Call the Harpy Hour Hotline to tell me your favourite sours or saisons: 1-833-85-HARPY (1-833-854-2779).

Exciting news awaits you at the end of the month! I can’t tell you yet but I I will soon. See you on Monday!

Episode 31 – Christina Coady

Today’s interview is with Christina Coady, one of the brewers at Folly Brewpub in Toronto. Folly specializes in saisons and farmhouse ales, but truly, there is enough variety to please any beer drinker. Pair their Dovercourt Pale Ale with something savoury from their menu and you’re all set! Christina is generous with her time and I thank her for it.

Crystal and Tara Luxmore, aka the Beer Sisters, do a live tasting every Wednesday on their Facebook and Instagram Live feeds. Yours truly was the guest this past Wednesday. Watch the video on the Harpy Hour Facebook page! It is a lot of fun to do events like these.

Call the Harpy Hour Hotline: 1-833-85-HARPY (1-833-854-2779). What is your gateway craft beer for newbies? All calls air on Monday mini-episodes; the number is toll-free in the US and Canada.

Finally, find the podcast on Apple Podcasts and Stitcher. Rating, reviewing, and recommending does wonders. I thank you in advance. Say hello on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Untappd! I will see you on Monday! Cheers!

Episode 30 – Prince Edward County makes some damn fine beer

Happy Friday!

This week’s full length episode has me and Jen P. sitting down, sipping, and reviewing beer from Prince Edward County, Ontario. Furthermore, we chat about personal beer descriptors, as well as my undisguised awe at Jen’s tri-athlete abilities! (It’s pretty awe-inspiring, tbh.)

Since I hope you are planning your own trip to PEC, here are the breweries we review:

Call the Harpy Hour Hotline at 1-833-85-HARPY (1-833-854-2779) to answer this week’s question: What craft beer do you recommend for newbies? All calls will be featured on Monday’s mini-episode. Calling is toll-free in the US and Canada.

Live in the Kingston area? Maybe you want to review beer too? Holler at me!

Harpy Hour is available on either Apple Podcasts or Stitcher, in addition to the website itself. Also, say hi on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Untappd! Finally, please review/rate/recommend! Cheers!

July 17 – the Monday mini episode

Download the latest Harpy Hour!
Okay, so it’s technically not Monday, it’s Tuesday.¬†Mea culpa.

Regardless, there is a new super short episode just for you. Rick from Vermont waxes poetic and brief about the Vermont Nanobrew Festival in Turnbridge, Vermont. I am envious. I shall make plans forthwith to go next year. (If you do go, please let me know what you imbibed!)

This week’s call-in question: what would be your gateway craft beer for a newbie?

Mine is this one. (It’s quite good. Most of all, it complements spicy Chinese food nicely.)

Call 1-833-45-HARPY, or 1-833-454-2779, to tell me your gateway craft beer for new folks. Responses will be aired on July 24th!

Say hello on Twitter, Instagram, Untappd, and Facebook. Check out my article on Kingstonist about Prince Edward County breweries, County Road Beer Company and Parson’s Brewing Company (they are my new favourite, to be honest). And finally, I will see you Friday on a beer review with my friend Jen!

Episode 29 – Can you really call this an episode?

It’s been busy on the Harpy Hour front this past week, so here’s a quick check-in for you!

What’s coming up:

And before I wrap up, call the Harpy Hour Hotline to be featured on Monday’s mini-episode. The number is 1-833-85-HARPY (1-833-854-2779); tell me, what beer/food/music festival are you looking forward to this summer? Did it already happen? Tell me (and the world) about it!

Say hi on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Untappd! Also, have a great weekend!

Episode 28 – Barley Days (and now we are 1!)

Download the latest Harpy Hour!
It marks a year since I started Harpy Hour, a year since idle thought morphed into real life fancy.

A huge thank you to all the women I’ve met and interviewed. Their stories are what make this podcast great. A doubly huge thank you to all of you who listen: you make my day!

This week I chat with Dani and Angie of the venerable Barley Days Brewery in gorgeous Picton, Ontario. Angie is the Taproom Manager; Dani is their top Sales Rep. Barley Days is especially relevant (they were the first, I believe) since Picton and the surrounding area have become a craft beer hotspot. I appreciate them giving me some of their time in addition to allowing me to sample beer!

If you are looking for a beer roadtrip that is easy on the eyes and the budget, check out Barley Days as well as the following breweries:

I’m probably missing others, so let me know!

Because Harpy Hour is turning one, I’d like to ask you, the listener, to be part of the program going forward. There is a toll-free (in the US and Canada) number for you to call as I will end Friday episodes with a question for you to answer! From here on out, Fridays will be new full length episodes, and Mondays will be listener mini-episodes. I will kick off the week with feedback from you about this week’s question. Sometimes it will be silly, sometimes it will be slightly serious, but most of all, it will be a chance for you to participate.

You got your dialing finger ready? Good! The number is 1-833-85-HARPY (833-854-2779). This week’s question is: What beers did you celebrate Canada Day/Fourth of July with? Since I will be listening to your messages, I may have to edit for clarity and length. I can’t wait to hear your call!

Furthermore, Harpy Hour is found on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher for your listening pleasure. You can say hi, let me know about someone to interview, or talk about beer with me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Untappd. As always, rating, reviewing, recommending can keep this lil podcast growing. Maybe I’ll even get to come hang out with you!

See you on Monday!

Episode 26 – A Delightful Review of Beers w/Trish

Download the latest Harpy Hour!
For a beer podcast, it was time to review some beers for a change!

As a result, I asked my friend Trish to come over to record, sip, gossip, repeat. Beer appeared, as water did too because hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, folks. I commend Trish for being a trouper and still recording despite being hungover. I am sure that I could do no such thing!

So please enjoy our beer reviews and natter. The beers tried were the following:

The show is found on iTunes and Stitcher. Reviews and ratings at either site are appreciated! If you feel social, say hi over on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and yes, Snapchat. I have an Untapped account too so you can find me under the handle, KittentheDestroyer. (I should change it, probably!)

See you all next week when we talk about fitness and beer! You want to be part of that episode? Holler at me.

Episode 24 – Robin LeBlanc

Show notes! I got yer show notes right here!

This week’s interview is Robin LeBlanc, one of the authors of the Ontario Craft Beer Guide. The 2nd edition drops in May so I have thoughtfully provided for you an Amazon link to make with the purchase. You can also find Robin at her personal website, the Thirsty Wench. If you especially like supporting independent beer journalism, head over to her Patreon.

You can find the show on iTunes and Stitcher, as well as listening here on the website. Do me a solid and leave a review or rating? I appreciate it.

I am all over the place online: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram. Untappd is also where I live but I can’t give you that link because I can’t remember my password (I just never log out). But I can be found there too!

Big thanks to everyone I talked to and hung out with this past Saturday! You made a good day great. See you all next week!
